# Destinations

### What it is

A destination is a saved **email recipient group** — a named set of people an export can be sent to (the *where*). The **Destinations** tab holds two kinds, on separate sub-tabs:

* **FTP/SFTP Connections**, saved server connections an export can be delivered to automatically.
* **Email Recipients**, saved groups of email recipients an export can be sent to.

You manage destinations on their own, so any export (one-time or scheduled) can point at one.

### How to add one

You can create one from two places: the **Destinations** tab, or while trying to run a **one-time export**.

**From the Destinations tab**

Click **+ Add destination**. The **Add destination** dialog has two tabs, **FTP/SFTP** and **Email**, and opens on **FTP/SFTP** by default.

* **FTP/SFTP connection** — enter a **Connection name**, choose the **Protocol** (SFTP by default, or FTP), then enter the **Host**, **Port**, **Username**, and a **Password and/or Private key** (at least one is required). Use **Test connection** to check it works, then **Save connection**.
* **Email recipient group** — on the **Email** tab, name the group and add its recipients (checked against your organisation), then save.

Credentials (passwords and private keys) are stored encrypted and scoped to your organisation; only you and org admins can use them.

**From the Export flow (while running an export)**

You don't have to come to the Destinations tab. You can add either kind inline:

* **While choosing Email** — add a new recipient group there and add its recipients. The panel closes briefly, then reopens with your new group preselected, so you can carry on with the export. The group is also saved to your Destinations list for reuse.
* **While choosing Deliver to a destination** — select **+ Add FTP/SFTP connection**. The same **Add destination** dialog opens inline, and the connection is saved to your Destinations list for reuse.

### What you'll see

**FTP/SFTP Connections** — search by connection name, and filter by **Type** and **Status**. Each row shows:

* **Connection Name** — the name you gave the connection.
* **Type** — the protocol, FTP or SFTP.
* **Endpoint** — the host the export is delivered to.
* **Status** — the result of the most recent connection test: **Connected**, **Disconnected**, or blank if it hasn't been tested yet.
* **Last tested** — the date of that most recent test (blank if the connection has never been tested).
* **Date Created** — when the connection was added.
* **Actions** — a **Delete** option (disabled while the connection is used by a scheduled export).

**Email Recipients** — search by group name. Each row shows:

* **Group Name** — the name you gave the recipient group.
* **Recipients** — the email addresses in the group.
* **Date Created** — when the group was added.
* **Actions** — a **Delete** option (disabled while the group is used by a scheduled export).

### Good to know

* Use **Test connection** before saving an FTP/SFTP connection to confirm the details are right.
* **Status** and **Last tested** reflect the connection's most recent test, whichever came last: the **Test connection** you ran when adding it, or the automatic check that runs when you pick it for delivery (there's no separate test action on the list row). For a **scheduled export**, the connection is tested before every send, so its Status stays current.
* **Destinations can't be edited** once saved, whether an email recipient group or an FTP/SFTP connection. To change one, delete it and add a new one — but a destination used by a [scheduled export](/verifiers/bulk-delivery/export.md) can't be deleted until that schedule is changed or removed.
